This is a first hand look at the Beijing skyline from the high speed train. I took an amazing trip to Beijing, China last year. Among the incredible sights I saw ranging from inspiring to disturbing, was the state of the air in the city when we arrived. As luck would have it, the very next day it rained in the morning, and the haze disappeared! You can clearly see the difference in the video as we exit the city days later. Amazing and sad all at the same time.
Forbidden City is the widely popular name of the Imperial Palace in Beijing. On the list of the UNESCO World Heritage (quote): "Seat of supreme power for over five centuries (1416-1911), the Forbidden City in Beijing, with its landscaped gardens and many buildings (whose nearly 10,000 rooms contain furniture and works of art), constitutes a priceless testimony to Chinese civilization during the Ming and Qing dynasties" Recorded October 2015 in 4K (Ultra HD) with Sony AX100. With its trees, shrubs and rocks, the city flat, in the densely packed district of Haidian, looks more like a mountain-top home. Newspaper reports say other residents in the tower block have long complained that the villa complex - built over 6 years - has damaged pipes and the structural integrity of the building. Officials have given the owner 15 days to take it down. The Chinese is one of the worlds oldest civilizations. The capital, Beijing with its 11 million inhabitants is now a modern city with skyscrapers, highways and shopping malls. Its several ancient monuments are all oases of silence. The Tien’anmen square is possibly the largest and most famous square of the world. The former imperial palace, surrounded by wall was called ‘the forbidden city’ because a commoner could not enter here. At least that beautiful is the Summer Palace and the Temple of Heaven, where pieces from the ancient artist await the visitors. When in Beijing, one must not forget the Buddhist temples, and the zoo, where the very rare panda bears are living. Let us not forget about the gastronomical part of China, since the country’s cuisine is one of the best on Earth. From Be...

For almost 500 years The Forbidden City (also called the Palace Museum on some maps) served as the home of China's emperors and their households. No one else was allowed inside. Of course, that's not the case any longer as droves of tourists walk the grounds today. Bring your walking shoes because the palace covers 720,000 m2 (7,800,000 sq ft) - or about 180 acres. www.LaurenInAsia.com www.LaurenBercarich.com Lauren Bercarich
